You'll need teams of at least two people, Goldfish® crackers and spoons for this race. Line up teams of two children facing each other fifteen feet apart. Give each team member a spoon and put a Goldfish® cracker in one of the spoons. On the word go, the player with the cracker in his spoon must walk as fast as he can to his teammate and transfer the Goldfish® cracker into the second spoon without dropping it. The second person must walk as fast as she can to the opposite side without dropping the cracker and pass it to the next person. If a team member drops a cracker at any time during the race, he or she must pick it up, return to where they started and try again. The first team to get all its members through without dropping any crackers wins!
Spend an afternoon searching for fun in and around your house with a scavenger hunt. It's a great way to keep children busy while making dinner, and an excellent way to entertain a group. For 3-6 Year Olds: As you look through magazines and newspapers, cut out items that are similar to things in your yard or house. Examples of pictures could be:
For 6-12 Year Olds: Write out words and phrases of items that could be found in and around the house. Examples could be:
Put the pictures or words and phrases into an empty box and let children draw one. Game can be played in teams to get children working together. Or, let each child draw their own picture, word or phrase and see who can find his item first. As each item is found, children draw another picture, word or phrase from the box to hunt for something else. Add a time element to really get the children moving around. Challenge the children to find five items in twenty minutes. Variation: When all items are found, have the children create a story using the items.
Great for a hot summer day, when the grass needs a little watering, the kids are bored and going to the beach or pool isn't an option. Hand 'em the hose and choose one child to be "it". The person who is "it" must try to tag the others with the stream from the hose. The first person tagged will then get their chance to be "it" and the fun starts all over again. It'll be the only time kids will want to get tagged! |
